Bowl History:
The Liberty Bowl began in 1959 and was originally played in Philadelphia at John F. Kennedy Stadium. Due to low attendance at the cold, open-air site, the 1964 game was moved to Convention Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey (thus becoming the first bowl game ever played indoors). In 1965 the bowl was moved to its current location at the Liberty Bowl Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee. From 1989-1992 the winner of the Commander in Chief's Trophy between Army, Navy and Air Force received an automatic invitation to the bowl if they were bowl eligible. Since 1997 the Liberty Bowl has hosted the champion of Conference USA.
