Bowl History:
The Cotton Bowl has been played annually since 1937. It has typically been played on New Years Day, except when January 1 falls on a Sunday, then it is played on January 2. From 1940 until the conference's disolution after the end of the 1995-1996 athletic season, the champion of the Southwest Conference was the home team in the bowl. Since 1996 the Cotton Bowl has featured a matchup between teams from the Big 12 Conference and the Southeastern Conference.
